Annihilation! The one word to describe the game I played yesterday against fellow campaigner Richer Sauvé's SSU all out assault.
The Allied 13th Infantry Platoon was holed up in the buildings of Zverograd's downtown corridor, still reeling from the Axis attack in the Market Square. Heavy losses left the "Lucky 13th" scrambling for reinforcements to bolster their numbers. But before they could return to full strength, the SSU emerged from the winter squall that surrounded the downtown corridor, in near full strength. The 13th could barely see the buildings across the street as the thundering of the SSU choppers grew closer. However, Captain Montreal was not going down without a fight. If the SSU wanted a fight then a fight they shall get. Quickly regrouping the platoon into fighting positions, the command squad ordered the soldiers to move out to get into key defensible positions. Before the squads could get into position, the SSU troop transport 'copter was moving into their right flank. Quickly abandoning their position, the command squad ran for cover in the nearby department store. Before they could make their move across the street the 'copter was upon them with a squad of fakyeli rappelling down the 'copter's dangling ropes. Hunkering down, the "Lucky 13th" begun to prepare for the worst, but they were not prepared for what came next. Kommandant Yakov bellowed a command and the fakyeli responded with a triumphant cry as they unleashed hell on the ill prepared Allied command squad. Jets of sulfur and acid fell on the Allies along with a volley of shotgun shells. The screams of the Allied soldiers rang through the shelled out building as their bodies singed and blood seeped into the rubble littering the floor. The news of the death of the 13th's command squad did not reach the other squads as they charged forward. The 13th's sniper, heavy assault ranger and combat ranger squads crossed the intervening streets to get into position across from an abandoned bank. The SSU frontoviki squad manning the abandoned bank across a lonely trolley car, blinded by the blizzard, did not see captain Montreal and his heavy assault ranger squad until they were literally knocking at their door. The heavy assault rangers smashed through their protective cover of the frontoviki position and were instantly turned to a red mist on the two-toned tiled floors of the bank as the rangers' rocket fists connected with the lightly armored SSU squad.
The SSU's retaliation came quick as the 'copter returned with the fakyeli in tow. The heavy assault rangers were pinned down as hail of bullets rained down on them with the acrid jets of sulfuric acid.
When screams died down, Captain Montreal was the last man standing, bruised and bloodied despite the protection of his heavy armor. Seeing no other options, he used his jet pack to propel him onto the top of the bank, coming face to face with the SSU kommand squad. Grinning from ear to ear, he charged, revenge on his lips and a berserker rage in his eyes. His rocket fists connected with the wide-eyed SSU guardsmen, splattering viscera on the roof where the guardsmen once stood.
Meanwhile on the streets below, the combat rangers moved into a flanking position behind the fakyeli, pinning them with withering fire, while the snipers got into position in a nearby tower. However, the fakyeli were unphased. They open fired with their jets of sulfur and shotguns to lay waste to the heavily fortified line of combat rangers. The snipers were desperately trying to knock of key targets, but the blizzard was hindering their shots and most only managed to pepper the ground around the fakyeli.
Having had enough of the nuissance that the snipers were causing, the SSU 'copter hovered over their covered position and opened fire. The snipers barely had time to scream as the bullets tore through them, staining the snow around them a dark burgundy.
Losing his berserking rage, Captain Montreal turned around to find himself alone, on the roof of the Zverograd bank, staring down the barrel of the SSU 'copter.
"You win this round you dirty Commies," Captain Montreal barked.
